Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the difference between a doula and a midwife?
A: The roles of a doula and a midwife are vastly different! A doula is a trained professional who provides emotional and physical support to a woman during pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum period. Doulas do not provide medical care, but rather focus on helping the mother have a positive birth experience. A midwife, on the other hand, is a healthcare professional who is trained to provide medical care to women during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum periods and also cares for the newborn baby. Midwives perform medical procedures such as cervical exams, do sutures, give medical advice, and perform newborn exams and follow-ups.
Your doula will provide education and support, both emotionally and physically, from pregnancy, throughout your labor and birth, and into your postpartum period as well!
Q: When is the best time to hire a doula?
A: It's never too early or too late to hire a doula! The only way to guarantee your spot on our client list is to hire us as soon as possible. The cost is the same regardless of the amount of time that we work with a client, but we love to get to know our clients well! If you hire a doula late in your pregnancy you will just have less time to develop that special relationship with your doula, but you will receive the same care from us either way.
